First Air and Boat Trip: Sophia’s Adventurous Journey to Bukidnon

Hey there, fellow travel enthusiasts! We recently went on an exciting adventure with our little one, Sophia, to my hometown in Bukidnon. Let us tell you, it was quite an unforgettable experience!

DisclaimerThis is a personal blog. The views, opinions, and tips expressed here do not necessarily reflect the other travelers’ thoughts. I’m not an expert. My purpose in writing is to share our story, hoping, somehow, to be helpful and inspirational to some – if not all.

First things first, Sophia absolutely loved the trip! From the moment we set sail on the boat and boarded the plane, she was all smiles and giggles. It was as if she had inherited her adventurous spirit from her parents. We were thrilled to see her adapting so well to the new environment.

The main reason for our visit was to introduce Sophia to her grandparents and relatives in person for the first time. But we also made sure to explore the beautiful tourist spots that Bukidnon has to offer. Our journey began in Cagayan de Oro, where we hit the road and made our way to Valencia City.

On the way, we decided to stop and picnic along the road. We relished our packed lunches while enjoying the breathtaking view around us. Sophia’s enthusiasm was contagious, and it made the experience even more enjoyable.

Our next stop was at the Atugan Bridge then drop by the Atugan Nature Farm, where we couldn’t resist grabbing some of the famous cooked and frozen binaki (steamed corn). They were absolutely delicious! We couldn’t help but marvel at how Sophia was embracing all the new experiences with such an open heart.

We then headed towards the Kaamulan ground, hoping to find a certain restaurant to satisfy our growling stomachs. However, luck wasn’t on our side as the place was still closed. That didn’t dampen our spirits! We simply decided to head home directly and make the most of our time together.

The next day, we embarked on another adventure. This time, we set our sights on UGO Cliff Resort, where we decided to camp and spend the night. Along the way, we made a pit stop at Daru & Co. and even visited the stunning Lake Apo. Each step of the journey was filled with joy and excitement, especially for our little bunny.

Sophia’s laughter and cries (whenever the car stops…hahaha) echoed throughout the car, filling it with an indescribable warmth. As parents, it brought us immense joy to see our daughter soaking in all the love, adventures, and new surroundings. The beauty of the road trips, combined with the company of our loved ones, truly formed memories that we will cherish forever.

Eventually, we felt the need to spend some quality time at home with our family. So, we bid farewell to our adventures and retreated to the warmth of our loved ones’ embrace. From heartfelt conversations to shared laughter, these moments they had allowed us to truly enjoy the essence of being home.

All in all, our trip to Bukidnon was an absolute success. It was heartwarming to witness our little one embrace the wonders of travel at such a young age. Seeing her enjoy every moment without any fuss was a testament to the endless joy that exploration brings. We can’t wait to embark on more exciting adventures with our little travel companion in the future.

So, ’til our next adventure fellow wanderers! 🙂

Tips for Travel and Camping Trips with Babies

Traveling and camping with babies can be an adventurous and fulfilling experience for the whole family. I’ve had my fair share of trips with our little one, and we’ve learned a few tips and tricks along the way. Before you go, research your destination, especially the weather. You can never go wrong with a little one with you, right?

Here are our top travel and camping tips for bringing babies:

1. Pack extra everything: When it comes to babies, you can never have enough diapers, wipes, clothes, and snacks. Prepare for any situation by packing extra of everything you think you’ll need. Trust me; it’s better to be over-prepared than caught off guard in the middle of nowhere.

2. Choose baby-friendly camping gear: Invest in baby-friendly camping gear that will make your trip more comfortable for your little one. Look for a sturdy and lightweight portable crib or playpen, a foldable highchair, and a good-quality baby carrier. These items will ensure your baby’s comfort and safety throughout the journey. Additionally, and most importantly since we’re in a tropical country, an umbrella and mini electric fan (rechargeable), are a must. An electric fan will be your go-to item especially when having a beach camp like we have had.

3. Plan your activities wisely: Consider your baby’s routine when planning your activities. Consider their nap times and plan outdoor activities during their most alert and playful hours. It’s essential to keep a balance between enjoying nature and ensuring your baby’s needs are met.

4. Prepare for temperature changes: Nature can be unpredictable, and drastic temperature changes can occur, especially during camping trips. Be sure to pack versatile clothing options, including layers that can be easily added or removed. Also, pack appropriate blankets and sleep sacks to keep your little one cozy during cool nights.

5. Bring entertainment options: Long journeys or quiet moments at the campsite can be challenging for babies. Bring along some of their favorite toys, books, or simple games to keep them entertained. A little distraction can go a long way in keeping your baby happy and occupied during downtime.

6. Take breaks for diaper changes and feeding: Be mindful of your baby’s needs and take regular breaks for diaper changes and feeding. Look for comfortable and clean spots where you can tend to these needs. It’s also a good idea to pack a portable changing pad and a small cooler for storing milk or food.

7. Be prepared for bugs and sun exposure: Protect your little one from bugs and harmful sun rays by packing baby-friendly insect repellent and sunscreen. Opt for natural and gentle products suitable for their delicate skin. Additionally, don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat and lightweight clothing to shield them from the sun’s rays.

8. Explore baby-friendly camping spots: When choosing camping spots, look for family-friendly locations with amenities suitable for babies. Many campsites offer facilities like playgrounds, baby-changing stations, and even baby-friendly trails. Research and plan your trip, accordingly, ensuring a more enjoyable and convenient camping experience for everyone.

9. Create a safe sleeping environment: Ensure your baby’s sleep is safe and comfortable by setting up a safe sleeping environment. Avoid loose blankets and pillows that could pose suffocation hazards. Instead, opt for a sleep sack or a wearable blanket designed specifically for infants. Also, make sure your baby’s crib or playpen is set up on a flat and stable surface away from potential hazards.

10. Relax and embrace flexibility: Above all, remember that traveling and camping with babies is a different experience than when traveling solo or with older children. Embrace the flexibility and unpredictability that comes along with it. Things may not always go as planned, but the joy and memories created with your little one will be worth it. Take it easy, enjoy the journey, and savor the moments spent together in nature.

11. Air and boat travel requirements. When traveling by ferry or plane, always ask for the requirements ahead. These requirements may differ from one company to the other. In our case, 2GO does not ask for payment for infants but should have travel insurance, which should be secured from their ticketing hib at the port. On the other hand, infants are not free in flights. You have options either to book your baby for “infant on lap” or “infant on seat.”

Traveling and camping with babies can be a wonderful experience full of new discoveries and bonding moments. By following these tips and preparing in advance, you’ll be well-equipped to handle any challenges that may arise, ensuring a memorable adventure for the entire family. Happy travels!
