Sophia’s First Beach Camp Adventure: A Journey Beyond Expectations

As parents, we always strive to create memorable experiences for our children. As adventurous souls, her father and I knew from the moment we found out I was pregnant that our little bunny, Sophia, would accompany us on all our escapades, starting from inside my womb. Little did we know that Sophia’s first beach camp at Sadagat Beach Camp in Medellin, Cebu, would exceed our expectations in every way possible.

DisclaimerThis is a personal blog. The views, opinions, and tips expressed here do not necessarily reflect the other travelers’ thoughts. I’m not an expert. My purpose in writing is to share my story, hoping, somehow, to be helpful and inspirational to some – if not all.

Sophia’s first camp technically started before she even entered this world. While still snug inside my tummy, she experienced the thrill of hiking, camping, and exploring nature firsthand. However, this beach camp marked her first adventure outside of my protective embrace since she was three months old.

The journey to Medellin seemed long, but Sophia handled it like a champ. It was her first time traveling by bus, and we were worried about how she would handle the bumpy ride. To our surprise, she didn’t fuss or complain about the discomfort. Instead, her eyes sparkled with curiosity as she gazed out the window, taking in the changing landscapes and bustling cityscapes.

Arriving at Sadagat Beach Camp, the tranquility of the ocean immediately embraced us. The soft sand beneath our feet, the gentle breeze caressing our skin, and the rhythmic sound of the waves lull us into a state of pure relaxation. Surrounded by lush greenery, it was the perfect setting for Sophia’s first encounter with nature’s wonders.

Our biggest concern was how she would adapt to this new environment. Would she be overwhelmed by new sounds, sights, and smells? However, to our delight, she embraced it all with open arms. Her tiny fingers dug into the sand, her eyes widened in awe at the rolling waves, and her giggles filled the air as birds flew overhead. It was a moment we had dreamed of, watching our little one experience the wonders of the world for the very first time.

As evening fell, we settled into our cozy beach camp tent, ready to make memories under the starry sky. One thing I had been particularly worried about was whether she would struggle to sleep with the unfamiliar sounds and ambiance. To my surprise, the gentle lullaby of the ocean waves seemed to work like magic. She nestled comfortably in my arms, peacefully drifting off into dreamland, oblivious to the worries that had consumed her mama’s thoughts.

The next morning, we awoke to vibrant hues of pink and orange streaking the sky, as the sun emerged from its slumber. Sophia greeted the new day with smiles and laughter, her infectious joy spreading warmth to our hearts.

Sophia’s first beach camp at Sadagat Beach turned out to be an incredible adventure that surpassed all our expectations. From her carefree curiosity during the bus ride to her enchantment with the beach and uninterrupted sleep lulled by the ocean waves, everything went smoothly. My predictions about potential challenges during our first camping trip were unfounded, as she embraced the experience with open arms, filling our hearts with joy.

Tips for Travel and Camping Trips with Babies

Traveling and camping with babies can be an adventurous and fulfilling experience for the whole family. I’ve had my fair share of trips with our little one, and we’ve learned a few tips and tricks along the way. Before you go, research your destination, especially the weather. You can never go wrong with a little one with you, right?

Here are our top ten travel and camping tips for bringing babies:

1. Pack extra everything: When it comes to babies, you can never have enough diapers, wipes, clothes, and snacks. Prepare for any situation by packing extra of everything you think you’ll need. Trust me; it’s better to be over-prepared than caught off guard in the middle of nowhere.

2. Choose baby-friendly camping gear: Invest in baby-friendly camping gear that will make your trip more comfortable for your little one. Look for a sturdy and lightweight portable crib or playpen, a foldable highchair, and a good-quality baby carrier. These items will ensure your baby’s comfort and safety throughout the journey. Additionally, and most importantly since we’re in a tropical country, an umbrella and mini electric fan (rechargeable), are a must. An electric fan will be your go-to item especially when having a beach camp like ours here.

3. Plan your activities wisely: Consider your baby’s routine when planning your activities. Consider their nap times and plan outdoor activities during their most alert and playful hours. It’s essential to keep a balance between enjoying nature and ensuring your baby’s needs are met.

4. Prepare for temperature changes: Nature can be unpredictable, and drastic temperature changes can occur, especially during camping trips. Be sure to pack versatile clothing options, including layers that can be easily added or removed. Also, pack appropriate blankets and sleep sacks to keep your little one cozy during cool nights.

5. Bring entertainment options: Long journeys or quiet moments at the campsite can be challenging for babies. Bring along some of their favorite toys, books, or simple games to keep them entertained. A little distraction can go a long way in keeping your baby happy and occupied during downtime.

6. Take breaks for diaper changes and feeding: Be mindful of your baby’s needs and take regular breaks for diaper changes and feeding. Look for comfortable and clean spots where you can tend to these needs. It’s also a good idea to pack a portable changing pad and a small cooler for storing milk or food.

7. Be prepared for bugs and sun exposure: Protect your little one from bugs and harmful sun rays by packing baby-friendly insect repellent and sunscreen. Opt for natural and gentle products suitable for their delicate skin. Additionally, don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat and lightweight clothing to shield them from the sun’s rays.

8. Explore baby-friendly camping spots: When choosing camping spots, look for family-friendly locations with amenities suitable for babies. Many campsites offer facilities like playgrounds, baby-changing stations, and even baby-friendly trails. Research and plan your trip, accordingly, ensuring a more enjoyable and convenient camping experience for everyone.

9. Create a safe sleeping environment: Ensure your baby’s sleep is safe and comfortable by setting up a safe sleeping environment. Avoid loose blankets and pillows that could pose suffocation hazards. Instead, opt for a sleep sack or a wearable blanket designed specifically for infants. Also, make sure your baby’s crib or playpen is set up on a flat and stable surface away from potential hazards.

10. Relax and embrace flexibility: Above all, remember that traveling and camping with babies is a different experience than when traveling solo or with older children. Embrace the flexibility and unpredictability that comes along with it. Things may not always go as planned, but the joy and memories created with your little one will be worth it. Take it easy, enjoy the journey, and savor the moments spent together in nature.

Traveling and camping with babies can be a wonderful experience full of new discoveries and bonding moments. By following these tips and preparing in advance, you’ll be well-equipped to handle any challenges that may arise, ensuring a memorable adventure for the entire family. Happy travels!

Indeed, Sophia’s first beach camp marked the beginning of a lifelong journey of exploration and discovery. As parents, we cannot wait to create more incredible memories and witness our little bunny grow into a fearless explorer of the world. As we walked hand in hand with her along the sandy shores of Sadagat Beach Camp, we knew that this was just the beginning of a lifetime filled with wonders waiting to be discovered.

She’s now in her sixth month and ready to embark on another adventure across the sea. Wish us luck! Safe travels everyone. ‘Til our next trip!
