My Misadventure Series (#3): Losing Valuables at a Mall’s Toilet in Singapore

After a four-hour bus ride from Melaka, Malaysia, we decided to eat dinner at a food center in a huge mall in Jurong East, Singapore. Sotong in a rice bowl was so delicious that I nearly ate everything.

Several minutes passed, sitting there almost done eating, I noticed something is missing. OMG! My 7/11 plastic bag is nowhere to be found. The bag contains an SLR camera, shades, food, and some souvenirs from Melaka. I thought nothing else than leaving it at the toilet before heading to the food center.

My friend April and her brother accompanied me back to the area. I checked the cubicle where I peed and the cubicles next to it but found nothing. I lost it. We talked to an attendant but he seems can’t understand English so he courted us to the concierge to report the incident.

Hopeful, I asked the staff if anyone has returned lost items but was told none. We’re then given the advice to leave some personal information for contact in case it will be returned.

All the while, I only have a single feeling that it’s not lost. I’m convinced that the day won’t pass without having them back.

Circumstances happened in between, delaying our way back home. Just before we could ride the train back to Sembawang, the concierge personnel called notifying the recovery of my lost items.

We hurried back to the concierge and claimed them, leaving an acknowledgment and gratitude note to the local who had found and returned them.

I don’t know if you would agree but I always go for my first instinct. It’s true after all. Prayer is a really strong weapon for anything we could imagine.

Thank God as He never leaves and never gets tired of guiding me wherever my little feet lead me.

To the person who has found and returned my valuables, God knows your good deeds and great heart. He will bless angels like you. Thank you so much.

Singapore really is a safe country and what just happened to me is a living testament to it.

Lesson Learned:

Always be mindful of your belongings no matter how exhausted your travel may be. Be cautious especially in places unfamiliar to you. Lucky enough it happened in a country where locals are so disciplined and honest otherwise, I could have lost them for good.
