Super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) Ravages Philippines
The Visayas Region in the Philippines is still dealing with the ravage magnitude 7.2 earthquake brought to residents, yet another natural disaster hit the region leaving great devastation, the super typhoon Haiyan (locally named Yolanda).
Yes, super typhoon Yolanda, pegged as the world’s powerful typhoon in 2013, has already out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) after its first landfall in Guiuan, Eastern Samar at around 4:40 am on November 8, 2013; but the casualty it left is really extensive. The deadly typhoon has washed out houses and properties along the coasts where it made its land falls and in the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc in Leyte, Cadiz in Negros Occidental and Daan Bantayan in Cebu. It has destroyed many of the establishments, houses, and agricultural resources in the affected areas. It made nearly all of the Visayan cities and towns out of electricity that made all means of communications down ‘til this very moment of my writing. It has cut water supply to most parts of the region.
You could have just imagined how this disaster made these areas devastated until now. As news starts coming out and disseminated through media, death toll and damages increase. Hundreds of people are reported dead due to flooding caused by storm surge. Many people are still out of help due to impassable roads filled with falling debris from trees and parts of houses and other structures.
Though stayed in Cebu where signal no. 4 was raised by PAGASA and with threats of strong winds and deep flood, I’m still lucky to be safe during the calamity. I’m saddened to learn that our relatives in Cadiz are among the victims of Yolanda as well as the others it has affected. I also sympathizes those who have no communication yet with their families back home. Help is still in need, especially our prayers for these victims. Let’s be part of the prayer brigade for them and thank God that the number of casualties is lesser than expected because of the preemptive efforts of everyone.
